Swiftie at (almost) 50
And does AARP give discounts to her shows?
As with most things in pop culture, I’ve spent a good number of years blithely ignoring the Taylor Swift craze that had apparently been sweeping up a fairly good number of the world’s population. Occasionally I would listen to a song on the radio, but mainly skipped over the likes of Shake It Off so it wouldn’t end up in my head for days.
Could I have named more than a couple songs? No, I would have been hard pressed to come up with the names of a handful of songs to her credit.
I don’t remember when she started filling my news feed. Maybe it was a story or two about her branding. Personal brand is an area of interest of mine — so it makes sense. She’s created a solid one. But it has been more than that. She’s an extremely smart business woman who has taken control in her life and career.
The more I read, the more I admired what she achieved. Then I had to spend a weekend listening to Shake It Off at the request of my 9-year-old sister and I wanted to personally hand it back to her.
Then something happened. She released a new album and had the ambitious audacity to call it “The Tortured Poets Department.” Then she released a video featuring cast members from Dead Poet’s Society.
